MISSION STATEMENT
The New Mexico Arts Foundation supports the arts and artists of New Mexico by producing events that feature the arts in all of it forms, and by working with artists and arts organizations as a fiscal agent to help enable their success.
The New Mexico Arts Foundation began as the partner organization to the NM Music Commission, bringing production skills and fundraising for projects including the Platinum Music Awards, as well as a wide variety of pilot music education programs and performances in the public school system of Santa Fe and other areas of the State.
The New Mexico Music Commission (NMMC) consists of a cross-section of New Mexico citizens representing all facets of our state’s unique and diverse music industry. As is befitting of New Mexico, the commission embraces and reflects all musical genres gracing our state’s multicultural tableau.
This relationship has evolved to include NMMC’s sister organizations under the umbrella of New Mexico’s Department of Cultural Affairs – New Mexico Arts, and the New Mexico Arts Commission. New Mexico Arts is the state arts agency and a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs. The 15-member governor-appointed New Mexico Arts Commission serves as the advisory body. Our primary function is to provide financial support for arts services and programs to non-profit organizations statewide and to administer the 1% public art program for the state of New Mexico.
In this expanded role, NMAF is serving as fiscal agent for a growing number of artists and projects, including and beyond the scope of music, that showcase the rich talent and many artforms at work in this truly creative State.
New Mexico Arts - Preserving, Enhancing, and Developing the Arts in New Mexico
New Mexico Arts is the state arts agency and a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs.
Its primary function is to provide financial support and technical assistance or arts services and programs to non-profit organizations statewide and to administer the 1% public art program for the state of New Mexico. Other programs include the Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts, New Mexico Arts and Cultural Districts, New Mexico Arts Trails, and Poetry Out Loud.
New Mexico Arts' mission is to preserve, enhance, and develop the arts in New Mexico through partnerships, public awareness, and education, and to enrich the quality of life for present and future generations.

The Platinum Music Awards
The Platinum Music Awards (PMA) are the State of New Mexico’s highest honor for the music industry. Five “Platinums” are presented annually to living musicians and music supporters who have demonstrated lifetime achievement in their music genre or have made significant and distinguished contributions to New Mexico’s music industry. Nominations are invited from organizations and the public. A jury of music industry experts appointed by the Music Commission selects the honorees.

The Nacha Mendez Scholarship
Music is a powerful catalyst for personal growth. While it is an essential part of life for everyone, Nacha believes music is particularly potent for young women and girls of color. Her mission is to encourage and promote the art of instrumental and vocal performance in girls, ages 8-15, in the state of New Mexico. Details at https://nachamendez.com.
Music Biz Mondays
Music Biz Mondays (currently inactive) has been a forum for musicians and music industry people to learn valuable career development skills and network with like-minded individuals in a casual environment. During Covid Music Biz Mondays operated as a zoom gathering. Watch for an announcement of its return post-Covid.
